INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION YEAR

What is this course?

The International Foundation Year is a university pathway qualification specifically designed for international students. It gives you access to year one of a UK undergraduate degree programme with guaranteed admission to any of our 16 partnering universities.

Studying in small classes on our IFY programme before starting your degree will give you the confidence and academic skillsneeded to succeed on your chosen degree course. Quality is at the heart of our university pathway programmes, so our IFY qualification meets the highest academic standards set by NCUK university partners. As well as academic knowledge, the IFY will give you specialist English language, study and cultural skills that are an essential part of your UK degree course. This combination will help you to get in to the university of your choice and progress with your future career.

Why take the International Foundation Year?

The IFY is ideal for students who have completed high school outside of the UK education system and/or in a language other than English.

If you have applied directly to university and were not eligible, the IFY programme may be able to help you bridge the gap between your current qualification and university study. If you are not sure, please speak to one of our study counsellors for more information and guidance.

How Long does the International Foundation Year take?

The International Foundation Year is run over 2 semesters, lasting 9 months (32 weeks) from September until June.

What are the study  modules on the International Foundation Year?

Our International Foundation Year gives you access to year one of a UK degree. We offer 2 broad streams of study.  One in Business and Humanities and One in Art and Design.

The programme is one year in duration and assessments are conducted through written examinations and continuous coursework. As well as equipping you with the English skills and academic qualifications for studying in the UK, the IFY increases your cultural awareness and develops your skills which enable you to study in a western environment.

What about help with English language skills?

All our programmes feature specially designed English for Academic Purposes (EAP) modules. These are aimed at giving you the specific language and study skills that you need to succeed in your studies, meaning that you are ready to start learning as soon as you arrive at your UK university.

EAP is recognised for visa purposes by 16 famous British universities so there is no need for the expense of an additional IELTS test. The EAP part of the programme is delivered by Foyle International’s team of experienced EFL professionals and, with over 27 years’ teaching experience, will help to increase your confidence and fluency communicating in English.
